Wales kick off Game 2 of the World Cup against an Iran side who will still be licking their wounds from their opening 6-2 thrashing from England. Iran may take the fact they found the net twice as a bit of motivation as they know (on paper) Wales are a much ‘weaker’ side than the England they came up against last Monday. Although, Iran must know that they need a much-improved performance if they want to get anything from this one, after receiving the 2nd biggest thrashing of the opening set of games.
An 82nd minute penalty from talisman Gareth Bale rescued a point for Wales against an inspired USA side, taking the Welshman’s tally to 41 goals for Wales. They will once again be relying on the former Real Madrid man to put a top performance in and help Wales to their first 3 points at a World Cup since their 2-1 win over Hungary back in 1958!!
Iran striker Medhi Taremi will take personal pride of his brace vs England and will be key to anything productive in the final third for Iran. Although, suffering their biggest World Cup defeat to date, they still have an impressive record winning 12 of their last 15 games.
I expect to see Wales get the three points in this one, but they will have to be aware of the threat Iran can pose on the attack if given the opportunity.
