After seeing Chelsea and Newcastle both win convincingly over the weekend, tonight’s fixture against Crystal Palace is a must win for Man United. But Selhurst Park hasn’t been a memorable place to visit in recent times for the Red Devils who have failed to win there in their last 3 attempts.
Both teams to score market is a must for me tonight, Palace have netted in 9 of their last 10 home ties while United have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 8 matches – all of which has seen both teams score. Both sides have a 2.0+ goal per game ratio across the last 5 matches.
Jean-Philippe Mateta has been in sensational form recently, more so at Selhurst Park scoring in each of his last 5 matches at home, a total of 7 goals! It’s hard to bet against the French man scoring once again tonight, after netting a brace and against Newcastle and a goal vs Manchester City too!
In terms of goals, I think either side could pinch the points tonight, which is why I’m playing it a little safer and going over 2.5 goals due to the fact that 5 of Palace’s last 7 games has seen this is a minimum, while 4 of United’s last 5 away ties have been the same!
Let’s look at bookings, I’m looking at 2 in midfield first being Will Hughes who has picked up 6 yellows this season for Palace including 2 in his last 3. In a match where I suspect United will dominate the ball for large parts of the game, I think the Englishman will accumulate a number of fouls tonight.
The other midfielder being Casemiro for United who is going to be required to be more defensive than usual with United’s makeshift back four tonight. The Brazilian has 5 yellows to his name this season, because of injury this is currently his lowest total since 2012 when he first joined Madrid!
Looking at player shots, United’s last goalscorer Antony enjoys trying his luck, the Brazilian has had 41 shots with just 14 on target in 27 matches. Olise and Eze are two of England’s brightest talents with both players contributing to 11 goals each. I fully expect them to test the keeper tonight.
And finally Dean Henderson will have a point to prove against his former side, the England international has made 47 saves in 15 matches and I expect him to be just as busy tonight too!
