Arsenal Season 2023/24 Preview

Arsenal surprised many people last season with their high press, energetic style of play and their clinical ability in the final third. But of course, fell short after losing an 8 point lead with 10 games to go to a Manchester City treble winning side.

This season could be a lot different, rather than having to make major changes to his squad, Arteta has the ability to make fine tweaks to his squad and with some brilliant summer signings, maybe Arsenal could go one step further.

Summer Signings

It was clear to see how Arsenal lacked depth in their squad last season and with the added pressure of Champions League football, it was vital that they made some additions.

Jurrien Timber – a young promising centre back who can also play right back too, a similar play to Ben White who can do both. Timber is a fast paced, strong player who will add much needed aggression and tempo to Arsenal’s defence.

Kai Havertz – a signing that raised a few eyebrows after signing for £65m from Chelsea. The forward area is the one place that Arsenal are stacked for talent. But throughout pre-season has played him almost as a box-to-box number 8 similar to the role of Martin Odegaard. For Chelsea he played in the false 9 role but I highly doubt seeing him in that position much with Gabriel Jesus back fit and firing.

Declan Rice – one of the biggest summer signings! £105m on West Ham’s captain may be a little expensive but they have said arguably one of the best hold midfielders in the league. A player who Arsenal have been crying out for! A lot of pressure on Rice’s shoulders but with Arsenals attacking talent in front of him, he will thrive in Arteta’s system.

Predicted Line-Up

I believe Arteta will apply the same system as last season with the pace and directness of Martinelli and Saka and the intense high press coming from Odegaard and Havertz. Zinchenko will once again enjoy that inverted role and potentially sit in the holding position with Rice, which will allow Odegaard and Havertz to get into the ‘10’ positions in behind Jesus.
