Belgium begin their World Cup campaign against Canada in what should be a straightforward game for Roberto Martinez’ men. But nothing has ever been straight forward for Belgium’s ‘golden generation’ who are quickly running out of opportunities to win a major competition.
Canada’s qualifying campaign was a major success, showing that they haven’t arrived in Qatar by luck. Winning 8 of the 14 games (D4, L2) finishing above likes of USA and Mexico. Talisman Alphonso Davies will be missing for this one, which is a major blow for Canada, the versatile left back is a huge threat against any opposition in this competition with his blistering pass and brilliant final delivery. October 2021 was the last time Canada participated in a game that didn’t see a goal – so I expect to see plenty in their group matches.
Belgium who have boasted world class talent for years now, have always seemed to fall short or below expectations. Those expectations don’t seem to have lowered this time round as they are currently placed 2nd in the FIFA World Rankings.
Qualifying was a simple task for Belgium scoring 25 goals in 8 games that saw 10 different players contribute to those goals. Belgium will be missing target man Romelu Lukaku which is a blow, but the depth they have, it should still be a simple evening for the Belgians.
Score Prediction: 3-1
Bet Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals – 8/11
