⚽️Having the best defence in the league doesn’t necessarily mean the goalkeeper will win the Golden Glove award, as Newcastle found out. The Magpies had the joint best defence along with Premier League champions Manchester City, but it was Manchester United’s goalkeeper David De Gea who picked up the award with 17 clean sheets last season.
👋But with the Spaniard departing Old Trafford this summer, it will be another goalkeeper who will collect the award. Let’s look at Manchester United’s new No. 1 Andre Onana.
⛔️The Cameroon international was instrumental in Inter Milan’s run to the Champions League final, having an overall save percentage of 72.09% in all competitions compared to David De Gea who saved 70.14% of the shots he faced.
🧤Compare this to Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson who saved 108 of the 149 shots (71.52%) he faced last season.
🇧🇷It is the two Brazilian goalkeepers that stand out for me as the two contenders to claim the award, of course Ederson, who for large parts of Manchester City’s games has very little to do. Which is why there is no surprise that Bet365 have Ederson as the favourite at 4/5 with Alisson in second at 5/1.
